Our feather meal is 13% Nitrogen. It is a semi-slow release organic fertilizer providing plants with nitrogen over an extended period of time. Plants like corn, leaf vegetables and others requiring a consistent supply of nitrogen.
Feather meal begins to release its nitrogen within 4-7 days of application*. About 75% of the nitrogen is released at a steady rate “slow feed” as plants metabolize the nitrogen for 3 months or more*. The remaining nitrogen will release for up to another 3 months*.
*But there are several factors that will determine the rate of nutrient release, some of these include: soil pH level, moisture levels in the soil, soil temperature and the presence of enough micro-organisms to break it down into plant usable nutrients.
Containing up to 13% nitrogen, it is a source of slow-release (6-9 months or longer in soils with low biological activity), organic, high-nitrogen fertilizer for organic gardens. It is not water soluble and does not make a good liquid fertilizer. It can be used to:
Increase green leaf growth
Activate compost decomposition
Improve soil structure
When adding it to a garden as a nitrogen source, it must be blended into the soil to start the decomposition to make the nitrogenous compounds available to the plants. As an organic garden fertilizer, it is not synthetic or petroleum-based.
Apply at 200-400 lb/acre or for gardens use 25-50 lb/1000 sq ft.
