Description
On July 5, 2024, after more than 9 years of struggle in international courts, the Treasury of the National Museum of History of Ukraine opened the exhibition “Treasures of Crimea. Return”, which presents 565 artifacts that were exhibited at the Allard Pearson Museum in Amsterdam. These are ancient Greek, ancient Roman, late Scythian, Sarmatian, Hun and Gothic items found during the XIX-XXI centuries during archaeological research in Crimea.
The artifacts ended up in the Netherlands in 2013 and were exhibited under the title “Crimea: Gold and Secrets of the Black Sea”.
The collection consisted of exhibits from the National Museum of History of Ukraine in Kyiv and four museums in Crimea - the Central Museum of Tavrida, the Kerch Historical and Cultural Reserve, the National Reserve “Chersonesos Tavriya” and the Bakhchisaray Historical and Cultural Reserve.
After the exhibition in the Netherlands, only 19 objects from the Kyiv museum's collection returned to Ukraine. Russia, which had already occupied the peninsula at the time, had its eye on the Crimean collection (565 items).
In June 2023, Ukraine won a historic victory: The Supreme Court of the Netherlands confirmed the decision of the courts of previous instances to return 565 items from the exhibition “Crimea: Gold and Secrets of the Black Sea” to the homeland.
Limited edition of the thematic postal set according to the “Personalized Stamp” project. The set contains a stamp sheet of 9 stamps and an envelope with special cancellation.
