Unused Vintage Zuni Fetish - Picasso Marble Bear - Emery Eriacho

Unusual colored marble bear fetish by Emery Eriacho (unsigned). We believe it to be Picasso Marble. The bear carries a turquoise arrow and  gifts of turquoise, shell and coral and has jet eyes. Great expression and detail. The bear represents great strength, power, healing and protection and is known for his/her curative powers.
Emery Eriacho learned his craft while still a teenager, largely from Andres Quam, acclaimed Zuni fetish carver. He is known for his carvings of bears and has gained much recognition and success in his career. This carving is from 1997 when Emery was about 14 years into his career and was approximately 31 years old. His fetishes are well known and widely collected. This one is a beauty in its carving and in the stone itself.
Fetishes are highly respected and are mystical, powerful talismans valued by Native American and other cultures throughout the world. The animal spirit is believed to reside within the stone. The Zuni carvers are perhaps the best known.   We purchased this fetish new for gallery inventory in 1997 and it has been in our safe since that time.
