1979 VW Volkswagen sand rail dune buggy - Street Legal
After 15+ years of ownership. I've finally outgrown one of my toys
One of the first frame buggy's. (about 6-10" shorter than what they make now)
4 cly VW engine. Dual Delotto carbs. Approx. 1830 cc = 122 hp (mid-range power = fast enough)
Engine was built by Dowker's Engine shop of Charlotte MI - Known for VW and sprint car racing engines.
This engine starts to come alive around 3000 rpm
Logo on the top and sides: The Tick. aka. Sand tick
In the last 3 years. I have rebuilt most of this buggy again.
2019 upgrades:
Tore buggy down to frame
Sandblasted frame
Power coated frame and rims (All 4 rims are alum. CenterLine = very light weight)
New shocks on rear
Trans was rebuilt in full
New tie rods and tie rod ends
2020 upgrades:
Replaced battery (used from salvage yard)
2021 upgrades:
Fixed oil pan leak on extended oil pan (gasket)
Changed the oil
Fixed oil leak on pass. rear axle (gasket) and topped off trans gear oil
Repacked front wheel bearings
Purchased 4 new CenterLine "center caps" 0.00
Rims: 4" wide on the front, 10" wide on the rear (00.00 in rims and center caps alone)
CNC turn brake - for taking the corners fast or to help you turn in the sand
CNC clutch and brake pedal
Road and good fun ready
